You Choose Paths, Not Options
We’d like to think that decision-making is a a distinct event. A choice between a set of options, some of which we might not have discovered yet.
But in truth, we’re never choosing options. You’re choosing a path, you’re making a small tiny adjustment in this moment of time, and that’s it.
It is still up to you to take action. We often forget that we can take substantial action after making this tiny change.
I’m looking at two options now, A and B, both kind of suck. B is better than A. But A has the potential for me to improve it if I put a lot of work into it. The other doesn’t.
I can’t just compare A and B on its current value; I must consider what both could become once I put in the work. It’s paths, not options.
